If you are talking about the circle going around the coin near the rim that is just damage from a coin wrapping machine.

 

When it seals the end of the wrapper it crimps it close to the coin and makes that circular pattern.

I agree, rolling damage. I seen some nice coins on the end of a coin roll ruined by them.

 

That must suck. I have a question for you though, are proof coins worth keeping?

 

Yeah, I suppose so, at least for me they are. They do not have much value in their condition but I think they are cool and keep all of them. I know a lot of people who also save all of them. I once found an 1859 Indian in VF condition in a cent roll from the bank. I was very lucky that it was one coin to the end, one coin closer and it could have been spotted by the bank of ruined by the rollers. Luckly, Nothing that rare has been affected by the rollers, just some end coins from some BU rolls I saved. I also found a box of cents with over 300 BU 1963 Canada cents, some were at the end of the some and had slight damage, just a couple though.
