If you actually know a coin was cleaned with WD-40 and a toothbrush, you should run away. Fast.
Put the money I just saved you towards problem free coins.

unless the coins have great detail, I wouldn't pay more than $5 each. Yes, the owner pretty much destroyed any value the coins might have had.

If they cleaned with wd-40 a long time ago wd-40 does protect metal so the may be in good condition if they were crude when they were cleaned who knows. You. or the dealer?

If you are willing to buy them and set on them for a while, so to speak, carry them around in your pocket with some change, your car keys, and a few other odds and ends for a year or so, while rubbing some sweat and nose oil on them daily you will never be able to tell they were ever cleaned.

Anything cleaned with a brush is no doubt damaged.

Except when you see the scratches from the toothbrush through your loupe.

What was the guy asking for them? Wondering if he got so overzealous because he thought he hit the big bucks. Why do people destroy our beloved coins and disrespect them?
