Wondering the reason this looks like a dime ?

    It can't possibly be a dime planchet because the legend would be missing the top of the letters in IGWT on the obverse or E PLURIBUS UNUM on the reverse. It looks like it was dipped in a silvery solution a long time ago, but the weight isn't right for a pre-'82 cent. When was the last time your scale was calibrated?

    As a kid we used to take liquid mercury and rub it on pennies and make "shiny penny dimes". We didn't know the dangers of mercury at the time, and I guess most people didn't know, or otherwise the mercury wouldn't have been accessible to kids any way.
