Never thought I could add something new to this collection but I did. Curiosity got me to look at the Auction Zip sale Ending May 1st posted by stldanceartist in the CT Advertising section at the bottom of the forums link. The first of three medals I picked up is exciting for me, but like my wife, she might find watching paint dry just as thrilling. To understand more about these . . . The thread link I posted a ways back leads to: Study on the 1971 - 1980 North and South Dakota Souvenir Dollar Sets https://www.cointalk.com/threads/st...and-south-dakota-souvenir-dollar-sets.392058/ If you see the one bronze 1972 Indian Head/Pheasant graded MS68 by NGC, I found this one in white metal. I thought I was just adding a duplicate. I knew it was an error, but low and behold, I didn't have it at all until I won this afternoon. My second happy win is this Joan of Arc Medal. I have a little collection of medals and ephemera around her. Yes, I admire her and love the story. I have a little concern that this might be a restrike of the original 1823 medal. Maybe not? The price was good either way. Does anyone know if there are re-strikes? 1823 Jeanne D'Arc High Relief Bronze Medal By Domard Galerie Metallique Des Grands Hommes Francais (Translates to Medal Gallery of Great French Men) was a large series of portrait medals produced in France beginning in 1819, by leading medallists of the day. At least 119 people were honored. My third was this inexpensive 1976 Montana Seventh Cavalry Souvenir Dollar 38mm Bronze On the front is General Custer, Colonel E. Dieber and Sitting Bull. I am interested in anything with Custer and Sitting Bull. I've seen these on eBay but never bought one til today.
I'm really glad you won some interesting pieces - and I do sincerely appreciate you checking out the auction. Thanks! Oh, also - it was YOUR original thread that helped me learn a bit more about those Dakota Souvenir Dollars, so thank you for that as well! Sadly there was no silver proof N Dakota in this box
