Won this last night in a raffle at my local coin club. I was suspicious when I got it, but waited until I got home to look closer. Yep, just what I thought. A genuine fake from our beloved China. I'll let you decide, but I think it's pretty obvious. Passed the magnet test, but at 21.0g it's a long ways from the 26.4g genuine weight. I plan to let the club president know, not to embarrass the person who bought the coin for the raffle, but to let them know in hopes of getting our money back and perhaps a closer look at the dealer who sold it to him. This one is too obvious for a dealer to miss. The Fat Man Dollar is one of the most, if not the most counterfeited coin to come from China. Too bad, a genuine coin would have been a nice return on my $10 batch of raffle tickets. I don't care about the $10, I consider it a donation to the club anyway.

I don't know this series, but this example looked fake as soon as I saw it. The surfaces are very rough.

    Def a bad fake. Shame.

Obvious cast, not minted with dies, and poorly done at that.

Having been involved in purchasing raffle coins for club meetings in the past, I truly hope the dealer made an honest mistake. Knowingly selling a fake to the club is not a smart thing to do. Talk about killing any credibility he may have with the local collecting community.
