Found this coin in a roll of halves. I was struck by the double lip part way around the rim. Could this be a mint double strike?
A coin with a doubled rim is not unheard of but they certainly are not common. Rim errors occurr when the collar slips - usually down. There is even a variety known as the railroad rim - but this error actually appears on the edge of the coin making it look like a railroad wheel.
The coin doesn't look like a collar error to me, but it is a little hard to judge by the pic. Could be a tilted die, but would really have to see the coin to be sure.
Thanks for input, took coin to Local dealer. He confirmed "railroad wheel" oddity. He pulled a reference text and showed me the passage. Very interesting. Always something new to learn.
