I posted about this coin before I got it in the mail with the dealers pictures. Overall the coin looks nice (better in hand) with a strong bold strike and decent luster. I think if not for the problem it would grade a 64. See the rim at about 8:30 on the reverse? It has a tiney little rim bump. Would this cause the coin to be rejected? http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j137/alde711/1917WLNewPics_zpsa9709a69.jpg
I could see them dinging it a grade for the rim bump, but it should still pass at a TPG. In my experience, unless a rim ding impairs the denticles, the coin will still grade cleanly, but could be net'd depending on how distracting the ding is. Again, just generally speaking. I'm sure there are exceptions.
The ding doesn't show on the inside of the rim at all. I was pretty upset when I saw it as the sellers picture didn't really show it. You could see something but it looked more like tone or shadow. I don't think he tried to hide it but he didn't go out of his way to point it out either. I am going to send it in to PCGS as one of my 4 free submissions with membership. I mostly wanted to send that 1800 dollar for authentication so this is just a bonus coin. I will have to come up with a couple more worth sending in as they want 4 coins at one time with the freebies.
