I can’t decide if I want to keep or sell, but if I keep it, it definitely needs to be encased. What do you think it’s worth and do you think it would details grade for the bend?
@Seattlite86 I don't think it would be worth the cost of submission particularly since there is no date. If it were me, I'd just put it in a Saflip. Chris
Nice find! I thought when I first started with errors that I would just throw them in a saflip like @cpm9ball said. THEN I saw the cool things that @paddyman98 has and I just have to say that I agree with you @Seattlite86 . That bad boy needs to go in a plastic case for sure! I would keep it and get one of those lighthouse slabs if it would fit nicely.
I really wish it had a date, but it’s still a cool double error, with off center and uniface due to capped die or brockage.
The bend is part of the mint error.. It occurred at the moment it was struck. They wouldn't be details.. IMHO
Its not worth much at all without the date. DO NOT WAIST YOUR MONEY SENDING IT OFF TO BE GRADED! It's cool, but would me much more valuable if it had the date. You could probably sell it on eBay for $1- $5
Respectfully, it’s worth more than $5. True, it would be more valuable if it had the date. I’m going to estimate it at $20 or so, but I welcome other error collectors to chime in. If I got it graded, it would be so that it remains in my error collection. Not often you find a two in one error coin.
I think you could pull $20 out of it if you were going to sell it. People pay for what they want and if it's what someone wants for their collection and they are ok with the $20, it doesn't make them an idiot.
Those were my thoughts. I can read the top of the 8 on the third number. Still trying to figure out the last. Then it won’t be dateless.
So I tested your theory and will have to say you’re correct. This is one of the only uniface off center coins I could find on eBay. I ended up picking it up for about $6 and it’s dated. I admit it wasn’t well advertised, but even so, it seems I would not likely get $20 for this unless I wrote a great description and caught the right collector. Here’s the coin:
I wouldn't grade it. No date hurts but it is what it is and that always commands a premium. In this coin, I think it's small.
That's actually a pretty good but with the date. But yeah, as I said, I don't think you can get $20 out of your coin. Very nice coin though.
Well, I just looked over your coin again and believe I have some good news. Get ready to have a date for your coin! I see a zero on the end of the date, meaning your coin can only have two years: 1990 or 2000, since 1980 was copper and 2010 had a different reverse. So now you're down to two, big reduction. Look at your reverse, it's a CAM. They didn't start making CAM reverses until 1993. That means it can't be a 1990. That leaves only one date left: 2000. It really helps to know your varieties as those little clues can make all the difference. I think it would be cool if you posted this coin and see how long it takes people to "guess the date". If you have more photos, I'd like to see some more of them. I'm a little perplexed as to what happened with this coin.
Cent errors like these are so common that there isn't much of a premium. I bought 4 last year 2 with a date and 2 without, for less than $20 total, tax and all.
