Will this coin cross to PCGS? 1864 2 Cent NGC MS64BN

I'm getting an order together to send to PCGS to have some old white ANACS coins crossed and while I was just thinking of sending this into NGC for a new holder I wonder if it would cross to PCGS.

Do you think it would cross? Would you just get a new NGC holder? My NGC membership runs out in a few months so I'll either have to submit before my membership expires, or have memberships at both NGC and PCGS.

Only reason I'm really considering it is to have the true views done on it. I think my pictures look good(minus the scratches on the slab), but I'd love to see how PCGS shows this coin in their true views.

Very pretty coin. I'm not a fan of True Views. I think they exaggerate the color on the coin. I know capturing color is difficult, but when I see a photo, I want it to be a close likeness to seeing the coin in hand.

If it were me, I'd just re-holder the coin with NGC. Just my opinion.

If you have the money and think it's worth burning cash for a photo, go ahead, but the coin is beautiful and I'd save the cash for another.

I'm not sure I agree that Tru-View photos exaggerate the color . . . for example, my photos below of a coin I bought after PCGS had already graded and photographed it may be compared against the photos they shot further below:

@ToughCOINS , I like your photos much better. Your pictures shows the fine details in the fields and devices much clearer than the true view. For example, look just below her chin, yours show field disturbances where as the True View seems brushed over.

I've seen many a True View where the toning looks juiced. Maybe I shouldn't have painted with so broad of a brush, but in general, when I see a True View of a toned coin, my first thought is suspicion.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that not only will it not cross from that holder, you'd have to get it reholdered just to be able to do justice to the coin when selling it. The holder is just to beat up to be able to make a good assessment as to the condition of the coin, which is grounds for a TPG not crossing a coin. Good luck polishing it, too, because those NGC holders are very stubborn when it comes to making them look good.

Thanks for the compliment. I try hard to get good photos.

I don't think PCGS intentionally loses detail. We all value certain coin attributes differently, and have different imaging goals, setups, and post-processing practices.

On one coin I might pay more attention to eliminating slab glare than to getting color exactly right. On another I might focus more on unusually strong detail in an area that seldom strikes up well, at the expense of not sharply defining marks in another area of the coin, etc.

There's nothing like holding the coin in one's hand. Expecting images to replace that is unrealistic, but we do the best we can, within practical limitations of equipment, experience and available time.

And I'm in Michigan so that wouldn't be cost efficient for me.

Chicago would be the biggest show that I could attend that NGC and pcgs would be at and I don't think that's until the summer.

The summer ANA won't be in Chicago this year, but the Central States show will be in Schaumburg (NW suburbs) at the end of April. Both PCGS and NGC will be doing on-site grading.

Nice coin. Do as one wants. I wouldn't mess with it, but that's beside the point.
