I was wondering if collectors will want to put together uncirculated sets of non-satin finish coins from the mint (eg. Sacs, Kennedys, State Quarters & nickels rolls) and so called "bank-wrapped rolls" like cents, and dimes? Personally, I've been thinking of putting together such sets for my personal collection from rolls I've acquired from local banks and the U.S. Mint, and maybe even a few for re-sale on e-bay. Here in CO, Denver mint coins are easy. It's the Philadelphia ones that I have trouble finding. Also, I wonder if the new albums will have a place for satin as well as regular uncirculated coins? Any thoughts on these ponderings from anyone??
I would think that there would be a high demand for the non-satin finish (unc) coins. Because all of the collectors who would normally buy a mint set to get their coins to complete a set will now have to buy unc rolls or individual coins. I would also think that the collections would have to have a place for the satin finish coin because it would not be a 'complete' set without that coin. I know thats a lot of thinking on my part, but its the weekend.
Do the pennies have the satin finish? If they do then I got 351 non satin finish 2005 pennies all in UNC or higher
Dansco has already put a new page out for the Jefferson Nickel album, to accommodate the Westward Journey Nickels, but that was before the release of the satin coins. It would be very costly to buy new albums so I assume many of the manufacturers will offer new pages? Personally I DON'T want my Westward Journey nickels in my Jefferson Nickel album so I have ordered a blank nickel album with two pages to put a few sets in. They are commemorative nickels and feel they have no place with the regular Jefferson Nickels and do believe another new album SHOULD be issued to start with the 2006 series of nickels. Just my opinion but I don't like mixing apples with oranges!
Oh, concerning your question of a market for the satin coins, well there is ALREADY a market. Check out Ebay and see what is happening! Will is last, now thats another question as humans tend to go with the flow and other new offerings will always be right around the corner and thats all it will take to move minds to something else. I, personally, have stashed back quite a few Buffalo Nickels and Ocean in View nickels in rolls (not Ocean in View yet), in proof and in satin finish. They are only doing this once so I played the Ebay and dealer game and got them as quickly as possible. Now time will tell whether or not I was a wise collector or a fool! Also have 3 speared bisons, two graded and one raw, but those were more or less for the kids and we will see, down the road, if I win, lose or draw on those as well. Me being a HUGE buffalo fan might have had a lot to do with my nickel passion this year?
