Geez, the people on Fleabay (Ebay), never cease to amaze me... People just ask to get bit! http://cgi.ebay.com/Buffalo-Nickel-...QQihZ001QQcategoryZ139807QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem A ultra rare double die that just happened to land in Peru, and from a brand new seller with only 4 months on the site, who has already accumulated a neg for fraud? YET PEOPLE STILL BID THOUSANDS??? WOW!! I wish I had money to burn like that!! I can only guess that fraud like this will continue as long as there are stupid rich people that will fall for it, so in other words, fraud is hear to stay, buyer beware... OK my rant is over, this just burns me up...
How much do you want to bet that those bids aren't even real? Probably someone with a hijacked paypal account or stolen credit card, or something like that. Mr. Scammer, meet Mr. Scammer.
Very, Very high probability! I added it to my watch list just to see what happens, as of now the reserve is not met. I hope it stays that way and ebay NARU's him off ebay, I wish they had a better reporting feature, because even though I reported it, they can't see my reasons for reporting it and on the auction goes until someone is suckered...
No, the bidders are kept secret if it is over a certain amount. I don't know what that amount is, but I'm guessing it's somewhere around $1000-1500.
The "F" is for the designer. James Earle Fraser. I would even consider the coin if the seller could speak/write in any thing that resembled English.
Frank, this braindead vendor on eBay should be put into the Numismatic Hall of Shame.Do you agree with me on this? Aidan.
undoubtedly!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumb: Perhaps we should start a "Hall of Shame". We could call it CT's "Hall of Shame". What do you think?
Frank,we should get Peter to create the Coin Talk Numismatic Hall of Shame, where we can report on scammers & ripoff merchants on all the auction websites. Aidan.
Frank,I've sent off an email to him through his profile link,so hopefully,we can get the Numismatic Hall of Shame created & up & running. Aidan.
to the seller's credit- all of the coins he sold in the past, (according to his feedback), were photographed on the same black fabric as the buffalo. he also provided a tracking number in response to his negative feedback, which tracks on usps.com as an international inbound arriving at miami, through customs, to the nashville hub, then enroute to it's final destination. however, that proves nothing. there might be nothing in that envelope except for belly lint, and it's odd that he claims the buffalo he's selling is all the way in atlanta. if he can send it that far, he could have also sent it to PCGS. also, i'm not much of a coin person, but the 1834 half he sold looks kinda funny to me. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110110566601 i don't think there's enough evidence to definitively prove this guy belongs in a "hall of shame". everything to this point is conjecture, and it could go either way. if someone actually takes a chance on this thing, they should fly down to georgia and pick it up it in person.
I see a few problems with making a Numismatic Hall of Shame. #1--its a good way for Peter to get sued. #2--not all people agree that a seller is bad---while you might say they ripped you off someone else might have gotten a really good deal from him and thinks otherwise. #3--Its just not a really good idea IMHO....but that is totally up to Peter Speedy
Speedy,Peter won't get sued,as it will be only the genuine scammers whose names will go into the Numismatic Hall of Shame.SGS,Aboncom,& Stevesgiftshopp definitely belong in the Numismatic Hall of Shame. If we had one years ago,Estatedoctor (a.k.a. Pamela 'pjd1966' Donelly) would have been put in there for sure. Aidan.
But Aidan--you didn't get what I said in my last post---NOT everyone agrees that SGS is a scam....I mean really, come on Aidan. There is NO set grading stander, there is NO law that says that you HAVE to grade a coin just like NGC or by the ANA Grading Guide, and there is NO law that says you can't mark a coin MS70! And if they want to do that and if they want to try to find someone that doesn't do their research and doesn't know enought to buy their coins....more power to them...this is a free county. OUR job is to share our knowledge with the ones who don't know and try to help anyone we can. Its kindof like your....Medal-Coin....some people think that your term is about as nuts as SGS saying that a coin is MS70, and might I say that I agree, people agree and disagree on things...the best think to do is start talking about them just like we are now and who knows--maybe save someone some money before they buy a coin from a seller that we don't think is a good one. Speedy
i agree with Speedy ... in the USA peope get in trouble for deframation of character all the time .. why take the chance on Cointalk? talking about the issues are how we learn. seeing a name on a list will not help us learn how or why
