Ok, this is all I needed. Another type of coin to collect. I keep telling myself I am not going to get into wildlife coins and this is the only one for me. I enjoy the high relief proof and uncirculated wildlife coins. I recently broke down and ordered this Canada $2.00 toonie just because of the polar bear, convincing myself that is the only one I want. Solid silver and layered center in 24kt gold. Beautiful coin. Then I looked at some more Canada silver wildilife coins. Guys they make some beautiful coins. Moose, wolves, bears, eagles, owls, whales, trout and some beautiful nature scenes also. Then I got to searching other countries coins and there are many more out there, not that I am going to get anymore. LOL. I guess I have found my own personal category to go for. "WILDLIFE COINS OF THE WORLD". Do you guys have any wildlife coins you like? Post a pic. Help feed my addiction. Enjoy folks. Mike in Missouri
World Wildlife is a nice theme and it does not pidgeon hole you into one animal. I don't have any pics to share but I love the Birds Of Prey series from Canada.
I think provident mint had a wildlife series cheaper than canadian mint. I have a white tailed deer, And the ATB with the Turkey flying. But was not very smart and decided I can see them in my backyard for free.
I wonder if Elemental has any animals? They do some beautiful 2 ounce rounds. I have Cleopatra and the Pirate issues.
I have quite a few coins with wildlife on them but have not made a point of cataloging them. Might be an interesting idea. But recently I have been looking through the paper money I have accumulated over the years and which was just stored in a box. I have quite a lot of modern currency, each acquired for pennies, which have wildlife on them and I was thinking that it would be an interesting topic. Currency can give so much more detail and color and can mostly be got for much less than a coin.
Yep. I was looking at some of the paper money also. Some of them have really nice wildlife work on them.
Your timing is impeccable! As I try and narrow my focus I've just decided that I'd like to collect wildlife themed coins as well. Right now I'll be looking at inexpensive ones, such as the state quarters that feature animals, some lower denomination Canadian coins and the like. I'm excited to get the collection started, for me the criteria is that it needs to be wildlife, not just animals. No pets or farm animals. Also the wildlife must be the focal point of the coin, not a secondary feature. Good Luck in your hunt and I know when you get into some of the more expensive coins there are some real beauties out there!
