Unfortunately for coin collectors, Jesus does not specify the denomination of the widow's mite. It is popularly assumed to be a lepton of Alexander Jannaeus, but it could have been a small bronze of any of the Hasmonean kings, or even Herod. If you buy any of these coins, the most you will be able to say is that this is one of the types of coins that could have been the widow's mite in the story.

I see MCM has listed several at their website, including a 135-37 BC Widows Mite Bronze Pruta Ancient Coin NGC CH XF. Do you guys know where one can find these coins in higher grade and whether it is worth collecting, except for the obvious Biblical connection? Thanks.

Most are typical of the type and appear poorly struck---due to the metals and expertise available (?)...

However, almost any auction will offer many that are of a high grade
and/or strike with excellent details and eye appeal.

Like all coins, the desirability of owning one is a personal matter.

I should add, finding one ABOVE XF may be quite difficult, if not impossible.

    Edited for clarification...
