    Anyone have any clues?

I find lots of really nice silver half's coin roll hunting, but the best are usually the '68s, some of which appear BU.

    Thanks!

From what I understand, many of the 40% halves were hoarded by the public. Which, in turn, meant that they didn't circulate very widely.

If you live in an area that is distressed, having bad times, you may find that people who don't understand the value of the silver content, dumping them for much needed cash.

Yes, I'm beginning to wonder if these have been sitting around somewhere for 52 years, and now getting dumped back into circulation due to the "coin shortage!"

1964 was the last year of circulation 90% silver. 1965-1969 only had 40% silver in circulation and in 1970 that was done away with. The public knew this and Halves didn't circulate very much from these dates. It was basically hoarded so most of them are in decent shape.
