why is there an S before the $ on NGC peace dollars?

    Im sure there is a simple answer, and I will feel stupid for asking. Im not talking about the S for mintmark

    Thanks for asking. I was just wondering that about PCGS slabs and certain older label Morgans with S$1's. I assumed it was silver and didn't ask. Now I know for sure.

    yeah, seems kind of silly, when they are all silver.

    The Chinese fakes aren't and they manage to get into PCGS and NGC (like) slabs.;)

    Ike Dollars come in both clad and silver. The older PCGS labels have the 'S$1' and the word 'Silver' on them and the clads dollars just have '$1' and the word 'Clad'.
    It looks like in Jan 2006 with the generations PCGS 15 holder the 'S' for silver was dropped. As it looks like this was a double referance for silver.
