Why is the Mint still putting the date on the edge?

The2009 Sacagawea dollars will have the date on the edge of the coin like the presidential dollars (Ithought they were changing that). The point is, only collectors buy them, and they put them in albums. They only way you can see the date is to take them out. Yes, you know the date, because it is printed under the coin. But is that really the P and D, or are they both P mint's?? Someone that may want to buy the set years down the road, will have to take all the coins out and check to see if they are correct.

the date and mint mark on the edge will soon totally or partially damage during the use. which will make collectors hard to check them.

the date and mint mark on the edge is the worst decision implemented by the mint. hope they will put back the date and mint mark to the observe or reverse.

No, they moved the motto, not the rest. I have always thought they put it on the edge to begin with as a novelty in hopes that it would catch people's interest and thus help the coins circulate.

Relating to slabbed coins ANACS has had a new clearview holder out for a little while. It allows full view of the coin. not sure if PCGS and NGC have something similar.
