BecUse when I do this is the result. New additions. Every Morgan I’ve bought for three years now was an O mint. am I a NOLA aficionado yet? thoughts on grade? More PL than any other Morgan’s I have but it’s infrequent I have the pleasure to hold nice coins. Sorry for pics. They were quick shots.
Same haven't been to any shops e.t.c in over a year my last coins were also some beautiful morgans. For me to many distractions with it being inside the 2×2 I'm sure its a nice one in hand.
I've only been to my LCS here in Tennessee twice in the past year. Both times I went, I didn't make any impulse purchases like this. However, next time I visit, I'll likely end up making a nice addition for my 7070.
The photos of this place online had a lot of coins. It is mostly a comic book store, open for 30 years or so here in Bangor. when I got there the coin selection was very small in comparison to the photos. I assume it's because of the harshness of the business world over the past year. The owner was nice, and I have no issue with putting money into a local shop in these times. If the guy was a jerk? No chance I would have spent my money. He had a fat man dollar there I looked at. Reverse was worn, obverse was weirdly toned. Felt silver but was too scared to buy. Wish I had known more about those. I thought it was real but I didn't grab it. No Chinese silver in my collection, too scared of Wuhan mint strikes.
I had the chance to buy an "authentic" uncertified fat man a few years ago back in Florida. The dealer specialized in world coins, but I've never felt comfortable buying uncertified crown-sized silver from Asia. I'm not exactly the type of person who engages in needlessly risky behavior when it comes to my wallet.
This shop had small silvers. Mostly from canada. 1880s dimes, etc. None stuck out, most were bent, or otherwise damaged. I felt bad for the store. I really want to have my own storefront but I fear it is too much of a risk, especially in Maine.
Nowadays having a storefront is a risk just about anywhere. Anyway, it's a shame about the Victorian silver from Canada it has always been hard to come by problem-free examples that don't break the bank.
Storefront shops are mainly for buying nowadays. Gives non-coin collectors security they are selling grandpas coins to a legitimate business rather than a risky CL or Facebook transaction. Ask most dealers, anything "better" they buy gets certified and mainly sold online. Its just the marketplace nowadays.
Yep. I like them a bunch but those little guys are very prone to damage. Otherwise, I'd have a lot more of them.
Yeah, I have gathered that but there is nothing more I want than owner-customer relationships. Just isn't something you get online. I despise the internet and it's effect on social interaction. I can't even make friends in college because I don't post on social media, I don't party, etc. I feel lost in this digital world where I can never make myself known. sorry for the rant
The internet is wonderful and all, but the value of the customer-dealer relationship is unique and cannot simply be replaced. I grew up going to various brick and mortar coin dealers and as a result, I got to know the owners and staff quite well at some of these places. One of the dealers I frequented in Florida always gave me first chance at the foreign silver that came in. Another one I knew even held onto an item for a month when I was 10-years old for when I saved enough of my allowance to buy it.
Really though, the photos do not do this morgan justice. I took the pictures with only my lamp because my roommate was asleep. Saw it and needed it.
Nice looking Morgan! It’s been a while since I’ve been to my LCS and I miss going. I need to go as he’s very helpful.
Best way to upload a video? Make it a gif? I tried that. Free app so deal with the watermark. Not paying 30 bucks a month for a gif. Lol
Anyone have an idea on how to reduce the size? The app won't let me and it is waaaay too big and takes too much space. I need to balance image quality with size to make it small enough for CT to let me upload.
It took a while to make it small enough to upload. I had to speed it up and shorten it. Maybe in the future I will start making gifs for more of my coins. Maybe even all. It would be a nice way to have two pics of a single coin in one file. I learn something new daily.
