:crying: OH Why Did I come home in a Body Bag? Anyone? 1981 P Double Struck 2nd. strike 80%off center...... Answer to follow I'll give you all a shot first.... Paddy
Not sure who you submitted it to, but doesn't PCGS and NGC tell you the reason when you get it back body bagged (assuming you say no to PCGS Genuine service as well). I agree that the surfaces of the coin look messed with.
I agree wilth RLM, I think the 2nd strike may be bogus, just looks wrong for the amount of metal available. Jim
Yes, I agree. The extra metal does not look like it was originally part of the process. Looks like someone added it.
Well, it's a blurry shot but the surfaces immediately look like they have some kind of yellowish tone... cleaning is what comes to mind. But how? Something changed the surface and seems to have left residue or caused an irreversible reaction/corrosion. I'm also curious based on others' speculation that if it is a faked 2nd strike how it was achieved. What do you all mean by too much metal? Thanks.
Answer is a Reverse wheel mark... this coin was not dipped nor altered came right from a bag. And yes my camera was running low batt. and it did come out kind of fuzzy sorry about that but the word unum has a very cool streached appearance on this coin. Paddy
WHEEL MARKS occur when a coin counter has left a mark on the coin leaving a highly polished spot. They body bag the coin because after all the coin was damaged.
Am I the only person that thinks this or does everyone else think that "Wheel Marks" should be given the same consideration as "Bag Marks"? You don't see that many coins getting body bagged that have Bag Marks, unless they are severe! Send it to ANACS and they will certify, grade and attribute the Error. Frank
