The big Raleigh Money Expo is this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I'm planning to be there a good chunk of Friday, and may go back Saturday if I find dealers looking for things I have to sell or if the ANACS on-site special is worthwhile. Who else is going?
Spent a good four hours or so at the show today. Attendance was pretty sparse (it's a business day), which seemed to make the dealers want to talk. A LOT. (Where's that "flat-ear" emoji? That only happens with phone conversations, but should convey the idea...) Sold a good bit of junk/common stuff for prices that made me happy. Offering prices for 90% seemed low to me (best was 11.05x FV), but given that I saw at least one seller offering 90% at melt (0% premium), I guess the spread has shifted toward lower buy prices. I ended up keeping the rolled quarters and selling a bunch of Morgan and Peace dollars, and some gold. I saw a flyer for SEGS indicating that they're firing up an online certification checking facility. It turned out Larry Briggs was at the show, so I went and asked him if this meant they'd join the other four "permissible" eBay TPGs. He said they were working in that direction, and went into a fairly extended rant about eBay, Heritage, and a customer who was bugging him this week. I think he was having a bad day pain-wise. I may go back tomorrow; Roger Burdette is giving a talk about war and Peace Dollars, and I've never heard him speak, so I might check it out. I was admiring an MS 1799 $10 in one display case. The dealer came over and asked if I saw anything I was interested in. I said "yeah, but then I wouldn't have anything to drive home." He chuckled; he got my point, even though I think it'd take at least two of my car to pay for that coin. Not in the cards.
