I have never been to this show before, since Florida is at the other end of the country for me. But I've decided to make a special trip this year and it would be great to meet some folks from this forum in person! I've got some questions for those of you who have attended in the past: • How does this show rate in terms of paper money dealers? • Any tips on good, inexpensive hotels near the Orange County Convention Center? • Would anyone be interested in getting together for a group breakfast or dinner? -- Greg
I have been attending FUN since 1990, and now take a table at the show every year. It is a great place to see most anything numismatic that there is to be seen, but paper money is not my thing. Still, I know I have seen many tables covered with stacks of paper, and am under the impression most of it is quite scarce (how else to afford the cost of a table there?). My calendar is generally pretty full but, if one or more CT members wanted to gather for breakfast or dinner one day, I'd eagerly try to work it in.
I've been to the Winter FUN show at least 3 times? Eh, it's a really nice show to attend, some of the dealers I know there are really nice: Don Bonser, Archie Taylor (hobo guy). And I'll be there on the 1st day (probably). For paper money dealers? There's a great deal of them at the show.
I'll be attending. It will be my third show in four years. I stayed at the Best Western on International Drive, down the street a bit from the convention center. Reasonable rates. This year I'll be commuting from Winter Haven........
I will. Native Floridian but it will be only my 2nd FUN Show. Coming over from Tampa. I displayed a set of coins last year but will just be coming over for a day this year.
I really like attending FUN at the start of the year. I'll drive over from Tampa on Saturday. Last year I was able to pick up a note I won Friday night at the Heritage Signature Auction. It's predominantly coins with a good presence of currency. Lots of cool numismatics to see, and the BEP will be there this year. I believe it's rated as one of the premier shows of the year. Include me if y'all decide a group breakfast meeting is slated.
This will be my third year in a row. I wouldn't miss it for anything. The sheer number of dealers and attendee's will make it the largest show of 2015. Not to mention the better weather than we will experience here in Chicago.
Probably the week before or after Christmas? What's a good way to do this? We have several people responding already and I would suspect more in the days to come. Not everyone makes the entire show so we need attendance dates to share. I wouldn't want to bother someone when they aren't in the Orlando area yet, or anymore. A few times we had a meet and greet BS session, outside the convention hall, in the fresh air. It started at a specific time and people could go when they wanted. Most went back into the show and continued their viewing. Some who were dealers found this could be accomplished more easily.
The way we've done it in the past has been through PM's so check your 'in box' (conversations) real soon.......
