i saw this coin on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/1811-Rare-5...rI1yUKPOwWndcC3I0hsew%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc To me it appears fake. 1. The liberty in the headband is far to worn for the condition 2. Strange strike error along the bottom. 3. Area to right of head is not flat....like it was a poor cast of an original 4. There's not enough build up around stars. The reverse has the same type of errors.
I'm not at all familiar with these issues to be able to comment other than the fact that this coin sold for a lot of money and not in a TPG'er holder. Maybe someone got skunked or maybe they hit a home run.
Looks real to me , but I don't know the series . A lot of these were struck with rusted dies which could cause some anomalies . Clashed die looks doubled .
I was unable to make my mind up on this one....I have an 1803/2 one to compare it with.... I just wasn't confident enough this to go for it.....although it ended up only going for 4700 which is actually quite cheap. I'm thinking others had reservations on it also
The buyer of that coin left a negative saying " Beware seller backed out of sale since she did not get the $$$ she expected" so the coin is Probably real.
Yeah. They backed out on another sale also....they only had a rating of 27..... This is a pretty low rating to trust for a sale of 5,000 range
The letters from E Pluribus Unum are backwards, like on a squeeze job, but it can't be a squeeze job because they go under the bust. ???
It's strange....it like two coins were pressed against each other ....but one coin was smaller.....then the coin was struck.
The seller's rating stinks especially with the accusation of backing out of a sale. Combined with the lack of overall sales, I'd be hard pressed to buy a $10 coin from this one.
Agreed, cool die clash, and I believe the coin is legit. Not cool the seller backed out of the sale though.
BD-1, Tall 5. I won't call it certainly real but a clash that clear is difficult to counterfeit unless they prepared some pretty darn accurate dies and then minted under conditions where a clash was likely.....which ain't likely.
When I was looking at some other capped busts I noticed this one with very similar die clash http://www.ebay.com/itm/1811-5-Capp...551968?hash=item235c217560:g:l5MAAOSwT6pVlZqW Same year.....these coins must have been stamped close to each other
