Here's some SGS slabbed Silver Certificates. What would you grade them? http://auctions.overstock.com/1957-1957B-1-00-SILVER-CERT-SET-SGS-GRADED-FINE/Coins/item/43558098 First note a fine? Must be fine writing. Others VG at best. Nothin but slabbed rags that still pop up in circulation. clembo
WOW! lol I thought Fine ment at least not looking limp, dark ,folded a 100 times with wrinkles all over it. For paper notes. lol I guess I'm wrong. What the heck is that company thinking. If you buy anything in a SGS slab of any kind it stands for you Sure Got Suckered.
If the first note depicted didn't have writing on it I actually think it might grade Fine. I would have to go VG on the rest of the notes pictured. Hey, at least he didn't grade them MS-70! SGS, like 'em or not, you have gotta admit they are unyielding.
True Gopher, He hasn't gotten to that point YET. Here's why taken directly off the web site. "Bills which receive UNC (60) or above will receive letter and number grades, and below that bills will be designated as either AU (Almost Uncirculated), FN (Fine), or GD (Good)." BTW no self-respecting currency slabber would EVER call a note a bill. Just give them time. I've aleady sent my resumee in to fill the void in their scams
You know ,, Thats not a bad idea. These companys need to hire some people that know how to grade. Maybe then they could start being respected.
While tarnishing my own reputation for having sold out to the dark side. Seriously though there are probably a few of the newer TPGs that actually ARE trying to be legit. Unfortunately most, snd SGS for sure, have no interest in that. They prey on ignorance and laugh all the way to the bank.
I'm seeing more and more of his crap turn up at local shows in the bargain bins, even then, no touchy.
Overstock is terrible for coins (and now paper money). People who have the "one stop shop" mentality, or those who don't know better are going to be the ones who purchase this (as an investment, gift for a collector, etc.) Same with the crap they sling on the shopping tv networks. Caveat Emptor! I hope people use resources like this forum, for example, to educate themselves a bit and not waste their money on crap with an SGS, NAC, etc. sticker on it.
