In other words, post something that you've had for a month of Sundays.......something that goes back to your very beginning as a collector/numismatist. Something that evokes childhood memories or perhaps fond memories. Gots lots of pics for this post people so sit back, put up your feet and enjoy my view of yesterday...........:)

The first storage unit I used for my fledgling collection was a small metal box which I recently pulled out and had a look see inside.........

Ya pop the top and all the stuff from long ago is still there........

Some Mint receipts for proof and mint sets back in '64.........My first ever order with them.

Next up some, old bills of lading.........

And here's some stuff that managed to survive trips to the candy store, the ice cream man and Classics Illustrated. All of this stuff came out of the change. The nearest coin shop was a bike hike of 5 1/2 miles.........

I have an 1864 IHC that I found in a park about 10 years ago. That is one thing that started to get me interested in coins.

I will also always keep an 1877-S Quarter that belonged to my grandfather, who was a coin collector and gave me a little part of his collection.

Well Ken, I guess your post has prompted me to come out of the closet. I have been in there for a year just rolling arround with my coins like Scrooge McDuck!
So I need to take some pics & get back to these forums.

Well, I don't have anything that elaborate. I started about 1964 also. But I was only 12.
The top 2 books are original and since retired but I still have them. Coins transferred to the bottom 3. Actually I have completed 3 sets with the exceptions of the 1909s VDB and 1955 DDO. Maybe one of these days. BTW the Blue Whitmans are 1949 editions given to me by Uncle Joe.

    Nothing from the beginning.
All the coins I collected in the mid-50's have been replaced.

I think the oldest thing that I have is a Brown & Dunn grading guide from the 70's.

Ya know something dear fellow? I've been sending messages and inquiring about your whereabouts for the last year. You dropped off the map last December (22?) and here ye be returning nearly a year later. It's been a long dry spell without you dear friend, and I'm terribly glad you've returned. I must say, I did fear the worst.....

A few weeks back, I went looking for and retrieved the 1852 Liberty Seated dime my father received in his bakery's cash register more than 40 years ago. It sits on the dresser and I see it every day.

It was the oldest coin I received from circulation until I obtained an 1834 Bust dime about 10 years ago.

Before I really began to collect coins at age 9, I received from my mother, either a 90% silver or 40% silver clad Kennedy half dollar for every baby tooth loss. Never spent the coins. I still have these coins from the days when the half dollar still circulated in the mid-1960s. They have been augmented with many more from circulation.

Both parents passed away three years ago.

Sorry for your loss Onecenter. Both of my parents have been gone these last fifteen years.......The memory of them comes back when we look at things we've gathered in the past. :)

When I was in elementary school, we found a U.S. Army metal soap container that had my dad's WWII coins in it (and a few buttons, medals, etc.) it had been missing for a long time and I suggested prying open a drawer in their room that had been stuck shut ever since I could remember. Good memories.

This is the first coin my grandmother ever gave me - 1922 D Peace Dollar. I've since had it encapsulated to make sure I never accidentally sell it. Came back as a Fine Details...lol 1922 D Peace Dollar - Obverse.JPG 1922 D Peace Dollar - Reverse.JPG

Ya know Yok? I was 13 when I got that box and 14 when I ordered my first coins from the US Mint. That little box, and it's memories, are something that I treasure deeply. :)

Does anyone remember Bon Marche? They used to have a coin shop on the 5th floor, and my grandmother used to take me from time to time. I must have been 8 or 9 when I bought my first Franlkin half. I remember going to bed with it, lol. It was my precioussssssss. I have no idea what became of it.

I think I posted these maybe a year or so ago, but since this thread is here I'll post again. Found my beginnings as an independent collector (coins I collected without Grandpa's help). As you can tell I really wanted a coin for each denomination...and ultra rare ones at that! Some of the ways I described the coins or how I did the flips are hilarious to me now, but I was only 6 or 7 and learning just the basics:
