Not trying to get anyone in trouble for rules violation, but who do you buy from on eBay? I've bought from a few and just came across a seller I remember hearing bad things about. Just wondered who you have in your favorite sellers list.
Since it's an auction venue, I don't have permanent sellers I buy from. And I rarely do a "Buy It Now". I am more cautious about someone with low sales volume or poor feedback than anything else. I always look at their return policy as well.
For the bulk of what I buy, I have a particular seller I use. He does a lot of 24 hour .01 starting auctions, and I walk away with coins for far less than normal, which is nice. I won't post who it is though, as I don't want to break any rules.
I'm skeptical of e-bay buying, but for some unscrupulous reason, I do it. Mainly, there aren't many coin dealers in this area. It's WAY overpriced on ebay. For instance, if I want to get a collection of circulated mercury dimes, I don't have much choice but to go to ebay (unless someone can direct me to a better alternative) and add these over-priced circulated mercury's to the list. I don't buy them. They are double what they are worth, in my opinion. NOW, my experience in dealing with an actual dealer (face-to-face) it is much, much more reasonable. For a circ. Merc. collection, they work with me. I don't know about high "falutin" (as they say in the south) coins. I can't afford those either. I just want to collect. Basically, you get ripped off on ebay. That's my opinion.
I don't have "favorite sellers". If they have a good track record, I'll buy from them. If I was bidding on higher end coins where appearances in hand mean a lot more than you can tell from photos, then I'd consider it. I have read of a few scammers in posts here on CT and I have added them to my blocked bidders list. Also, whenever I'm searching for coins and I come across a seller with less than 100% feedback, I'll check it out. I look at the negative feedbacks and if the reasons for leaving negative feedback are trivial, I'll add the buyer who left that feedback to my blocked bidders list. i.e. A person who bids $0.25 on a wheat penny with free shipping and leaves a negative feedback for just about any reason is going on my blocked bidders list. $0.25 and they couldn't work things out with the seller? I don't have the time or patience to deal with people like that. Basically, I'm much more concerned about getting a negative feedback from some pinhead than I am about getting something that isn't as advertised. In the case of the latter, I know FeeBay/PayPal have my back and I'll be able to get my money back if the need arises.
Great seller there! Honest, and always alble to work with his customers. Gives them a week to pay as he always has so many sales going on!
Has anyone dealt with F and J coins out of Toledo, OH? They have a different user name than their shop is called. But I've heard mixed reviews. How about vette with some numbers after it? He has a lot of auctions and I as well like using the auction format as you usually get better deals than the BIN.
I don't know why so many people think he's a crook. Never had a bad deal with him ever, and I've been buying from his eBay store for several years now.
I don't understand it either. Take yesterday for example, I received an order in, and one of the items was showing some red splotches on it, a 79-s Type II proof cent. I emailed him about it, and he said he would take care of it on my next order. He could be like so many sellers out there that don't give two craps about their customers. But he always strives to make sure that everyone is happy with their purchases.
After buying on eBay for 10 years, there is only one seller I won't buy from. Everyone else is fair game if they have what I want at a price I am willing to pay.
