I was surprised to discover recently that Whitman Publishing now owns the MintNewsBlog.com and CoinUpdate.com websites. They were formerly owned by Michael Zielinski. This can be confirmed by using whois, which shows the change in control occurred on June 24, 2014, over 5 months ago. Apparently neither party was proud enough about the transaction to issue a statement about the change in ownership, along the lines of "We are proud to announce that MintNewsBlog and CoinUpdate are now new members of Whitman Publishing's family ..." Instead, there has only been silence, as if nothing had happened. I don't begrudge anyone for making money by selling their websites, but I am annoyed that the sale was kept quiet and wasn't announced.
A more apt analogy would be a favorite radio station you enjoy, partly because it's independent and the on-air personnel are all local, and then you discover by examining FCC data that said radio station has recently been quietly sold to Clear Channel or Cumulus Media.
Dunno if anyone was implying that mischief was afoot, but I'm curious what Whitman will do with these sites.
