Since I was little little I've always loved collecting coins. I've got whitman books that my grandfather gave me 20 years ago that he got back in the 60's-70's. The real fascination with coin collecting came when my daughter was born and I was trying to figure something out that I could work on and leave to her years and years from now when I'm gone. Since then I have gotten whitman books of all shapes and sizes, some are just the little flip books where ya pop the coins in and boom it's done. While others are the "better" whitman books with the pages and sliding covers on the fronts and backs. We also picked up a typeset book with a slip case about 5 years ago (no gold pages tho, I wish I could afford to stack gold but unfortunately I can't so I stick to silver and oldies) and it's has been a slow but rewarding process to find beautiful examples of coins for the type set, I'm not sticking just any random "junk" in there. I want it to be a immaculate set when and if we get done with it.. well to the point of this topic I guess lol. After completing my jefferson book, and almost completing my lincoln cent ( almost being the key word there lol some of the key dates cost a small fortune,so those holes will be empty for a while) I asked my daughter about starting a nice mint state registry set and she said we should go for the lincoln cents to begin with and work from there.. so I got on great collections and started bidding on a few pieces. We aren't gonna go for the MS 67-MS 68 top end break the bank coins but we figured MS 65 is a nice middle ground without going to the low end of the scale but also staying away from the expensive side of the MS scale..so out of the 10 coins I was bidding on I only won 1 of them (lol) but hey it's a start and the 43 steel seems like a good starting point. I should have read just a little deeper tho and wish I had realized this was an ANACS coin.. I want to stick with PCGS or NGC for our registry set,so I will be looking to also get this one in a different holder.. the question and the whole point of this small letter I guess is besides great collection, where else is a decent reputable seller of graded coins besides eBay?
Heritage Auctions. A bit more pricey than GC, but still worth it. BTW, most of us probably only win 1 out of 10 or 1 of 20 auctions. That includes auctions where we just throw in "stink bids" or early and low bids just for the hell of it.
