White Whale? (the bill you haven't captured yet...)

What bills are you currently looking for that you have had a struggle to find? (or find at a reasonable price) If you want you can also add how long you have been looking for that bill.

I understand that there might be a few people who don't want to list their wants... but I hope many will. If you know of a place where a bill listed is for sale you could always point the poster in the right direction. It would be nice if at least one person is able to find a bill based on this thread.

Personally I have a handful of high dollar bills I would love to add to my collection
    1923 $5 silver cert.
    1896 $1 Educational
1929 National Currency from small local banks

but the one that is annoying me right now is a 1981A $1 San Francisco note. It is the last one that I need for the $1 series and should cost me less then $10. So far I can only find it in lots of 50 or uncut sheets.

I'll say! but I think I'd take it any way I could get one. For me it's the St Louis Series 1985 * note (Fr-1913H*)

Those are all super nice Series 1981 notes (Fr-1911H), but they're not the St Louis Series of 1985 star (*) note (Fr-1913H*, which books for $475 (VF) and $1,350 (ChCU) in A guide book of United States Paper Money, Second Edition by Friedberg.

Not really looking for anything. I just browse until I see something I like and buy it if I can. Of course, many times I can't because I'm not filthy rich.

It does seem like the notes from the 70's and 80's are much harder to find then the 60's, 50's, and earlier.

It also seems like like some of the districts have 10 times the number of bills as SF.

I'm located in the suburbs of SF and have a hard time finding bills pre 1990 SF

I have a few shops near here that had nice collections of old $1/5/10 bills but they seemed to have gaps after the 60's. I have pulled some newer bills from circulation but the 70's and 80's are a struggle. Most of the bills are L12 but they have a handful of "Foreign" bills like F6 and others...:D

I would love any from the Educational Series in nice condition... not quite that advanced of a collector yet I'm afraid.

I have so many 'whales' that elude me, i simply cannot keep track. Most of the notes listed in this thread are good examples. I have the $1 educational note in low grade and would love the whole series in a hig grade. My $5 chief and $10 buffalo notes are also in the lower grades - to get those in a 65 or 66 PPQ would kill me instantly :)

There are MANY Colonial notes I would love to have. I also like the early small change notes and would love to have a collection of those. Unfortunately many of the items I would like are not within my budget even if I could locate them... I also like the early lottery tickets. Basically anything early with a good story/history attached to it is of interest to me. Finding an out of print reference book that I can add to my library is also very exciting to me.

I was absolutely thrilled to meet Eric P. Newman last fall. I had the opportunity to spend about an hour with him talking about Colonial notes, research, etc. That was more exciting to me than acquiring a note. I love this hobby and the people who are part of it!

Man is that ever the truth!! When you start dropping $5-$7K per note..it is really slow going!!
I have done my share of that for sure!

I would really like to get my hands on a $500 and a $1000 FRN, not that either of those are particularly hard to find.

They are on eBay all the time.

The reason they elude me is because I never have the extra $$$ to purchase one. I just hope I can get an example of each, before they are gone.

Either from collectors snatching them all up, or from the few that may be left in circulation, going to the shredder.

    Mismatched serial number district set.
I have two but they've blown up stupidly expensive. I do want a bunion note though

  21. The one I really would love to have one day is the series 1905 $20 gold certificate.
