I agree, read that thread before you do anything. We had a long discussion about that coin and I would stay away from it.

Is it possible it was coated with mercury?

I have seen this done with chrome plating before. I'v work at a plating company and few people there have plated coins and were very good at it. I would stay away from it.

Isn't this secret service level Fraud? I mean it's OK to damage the coin(souvenir smashers) as long as you don't misrepresent it or try to sell it for the metal content right (melting pennies for copper)? This guy is lying that the Mint did this to the coin and therefore he has altered the coin and is trying to sell it as something it isn't.
