So after he finished bad-mouthing my IH cents (I'm still sending them in, I don't agree with his opinion - hope he's wrong, but he's really good - I'm just stubborn - another story).

    BACK TO THE STORY...

He showed me his latest acquisition - All of these are uncirculated - identical 1938 D/D (D over D) mint mark Buffalo Nickels!

I think they're off to grading, but if you are interested - msg me and I'll let you know who has them. My cell phone camera doesn't do these justice, they're GORGEOUS baby!!!

Wow! Where did he get them? Did he rob a stagecoach leaving Denver in 1938?

There are quite a few D/D and D/S 1938 buffalo nickels.
Not having my book in hand I want to say between 9-12 off the top of my head. I've been trying to collect one of each variety . The problem is that certain varieties are pretty common to find and some are not as most series goes .
The other issue is price points I've have picked them out of the half price boxes for a few dollars then again seeing them for a $100 +. I would suggest to go through them before sending them in. That way if they are one of the harder to find varieties you know that the price points will be higher, if not it may pay to sell them raw instead of getting grading fees involved .

They do not appear to me to be the OMM-1, and a few from the photos look like they may be from a damaged mint mark punch. For the last of the buffaloes they were using what ever they had left.

My guess why so many rolls of the last buffalo's are showing up is that the older collectors are dying off and their kids have no interest . As I remember years ago collectors would stash away rolls of coins, not just a couple.
I have seen here on the right coast quite a few dealer friends with rolls of them purchased from estate sales.
