For the same price, looking at it as both an investment and numismatic perspective, which would you rather have? 2 Rolls ($20 total) Silver State quarter proofs (no 1999's) 1 Roll ($10 total) year 2000 and newer silver Kennedy half proofs 1 Roll 2011 ASE's 1 Common-date Proof Franklin Half dollar OR 1 2006 Proof Gold Buffalo
From a collector perspective, I don't see any of those being long term winners. So basically you're asking which will do better over the long term, silver or gold. Of the two, I prefer gold at current levels, so the "buff" is my answer.
Like Mike, I'll look at it from an investment perspective, except I'll go with the roll of silver ASE's. I think gold is currently way over-valued while silver remains under-valued. In the long term, I think a roll of silver will exceed the value of an ounce of gold by a nice margin. Guy
I would have to say the 2006 Gold Buffalo just because of the items listed, only this and the ASE's fit into what I am collecting now. If I were to give advice to someone looking into both numismatic and investment perspective, I'd have to say the state quarters just because it SEEMS like they would be easier to flip. Interesting scenario.
I'd go with the Silver Eagles. I feel silver is undervalued and will be a good long term choice. Plus I love the looks of 'em.
1. Buffalo 2. Roll of Silver Eagles 3. Roll of 2000 Silver Kennedy Half Proofs 4. Common date Proof Franklin half 5. 2 rolls of Silver Sate Quarter Proofs All in that order.
I think some of you are not understanding what the original poster is saying. The silver is all in one purchase, not something separately. In that aspect, I say the silver purchase would be the one more worthwhile.
Yes. The original poster posted this twice and I said something along the lines of the following in the other thread: I would go for the silver as it can be sold in chunks if need-be. Also, it seems easier to make a profit on it now as it seems silver has some ways to go before a possible ceiling is hit. Gold? Just seems a bit high now.
From a collector point of view, I'd like the gold. From an investment point of view, the silver, for all the reasons put forth already.
That's a tough one, but in the end I think I would take the gold over the silver. So my choice is the Gold Buffalo. -LTB
