Which TPG for 1652 Massachusetts Pine Tree Shilling

So I called ANACS, and they only grade South American/Spanish colonial coins (even some cobs) but not a Massachusetts Pine Tree Shilling (talk about un-American, hehe :p). They do authenticate them, but not grade or slab. Lady on phone suggested I take it to Georgia show they're attending for free grader opinion. Anyways, needs a net grade (corroded & cleaned, spent some time buried) or I would have called PCGS first. NGC is probably a waste of money too, even ICG might bodybag it. Guess I should call SEGS next  then ACG :| Can't believe it's this hard to find a plastic tomb for a coin listed in Red Book.

Yes, give SEGS a try. I don't know why you rule out ICG though.

My first ICG submission of 5 Peruvian Soles resulted in 4 bodybags and a $15 charge for an intercept shield box. Or over $50 to get one coin slabbed (world economy service), all of which now happily reside in MS61-63 holders BTW. And none of those coins were corroded (couple were LIGHTLY cleaned), so didn't think this puppy had a chance there. Though hear they've been grading more liberally lately (I wouldn't really know, that's the only ICG slab I own).

Yea, but ANACS would have been my first suggestion for net grading a coin. I'm surprised they wouldn't do this one. It's not like there's nobody there that would know what it is after all.

Why do you need it graded anyway?

So I can sell it on eBay 8O and because I have no idea how far down to NET grade a metal detector find like this. Was REALLY needing ANACS' expertise in this area... sent SEGS an email day before yesterday, still no reply. Guess they're too busy

four days later ANACS responds to email... I already got answers over phone, but for anyone wanting to see it in black and white:

"Sorry for the confusion. We are beginning to grade and encapsulate certain types of the Spanish colonial "cob" coins. We need to correct our information on this.

We do not grade or encapsulate U.S. colonials, such as the 1652 Pine Tree shilling. If you have one that you think is counterfeit, as many are, we can verify that the coin is not genuine if you wish. However, if the coin is most likely genuine, and you want a grade on it, we cannot help you."

For the life of me I can't understand why they'll authenticate but not slab or grade it. Boggles my mind. Oh well... still no reply from SEGS. I'm about to give up on it 8O
