So I thought I would post a couple of Todd's recent photos of a couple of my Walkers. Which look do you prefer? The 1918? The 1946-S? Neither?

All thoughts and comments appreciated. Thanks to Todd again for some great photos.

Two very nice coins. If it were not for those so very slight contact mark's on the reverse, that 66 IMHO would be a 67 too.

The 46S looks better for me. Maybe I like the reverse more.

I like the top one better. CAC/PCGS means nothing; the top one is a nicer coin IMHO.

The luster looks much stronger on the 46S. I like them both, they both have a pretty similar style of toning. I generally prefer less speckly toning in favor of something smoother, but I am aware of the extreme difficulty in finding just about any attractively toned walker.

I like the obverse of the 46 but the reverse of the 1918 if that is allowed??? :) I love to see all the walker fans!

I agree with the comment about the luster and considering that the toning is very similar, I have to pick the 46-S.

I like the 1918 much more but I don't know much.

I like the toning on the 1918 but the 1946 is without question a higher graded coin. In other words without the toning aspect the 1946 wins hands down, JMHO.

If you're asking specifically which toning looks better, I'd have to choose the 1918.

The title to this thread asks "Which toned Walker has a better look?" To me, the 46-S is definitely the better looking coin. It is cleaner, and more lustrous. Now, had you asked which coin I would prefer, I would take the 1918.

I prefer the 1918 for three reasons: 1) It is a much tougher coin as a date; 2) It is almost impossible to find with attractive color and 3) The dark areas at the obverse periphery of the 1946-S are somewhat distracting.

RLM and Mark have pointed out what should have been apparent to me -- a 1918 Walker to a 46-S Walker is really not a fair comparison. It's more appropriate to compare Walkers from the same era. However, I thought the question would be better at causing discussion (and it seems to be working).

    Thanks for all the feedback.

I thought while reading down through each response that initially picking the '18 was putting me in the minority for something I couldn't figure out between the two, but then I saw the more senior comments and am happy for my intuition and for learning why some others also prefer the look of the '18 as well. Thanks. BTW, they are both stunning coins!
