I work at a convenience store, and I try to look at every coin in the till and every coin that is spent on my shift. I've found some interesting coins since I've worked there. Here are some of the highlights: (2) 1943 steel pennies 1912 V nickel (date unknown) buffalo nickel (30+) silver Roosevelt dimes 1964 silver quarter (3) '52-'53 Franklin halves 1861 British half penny Series 1957A $1 silver certificate Which of these finds is the most impressive to you? The Franklin halves probably were the biggest shocker for me. The V nickel was also very impressive.
I find V nickels to be the most impressive. Sometimes modern silvers get spent by a relative or their kids who dont know about the worth of silver so it isnt that impressive. When I worked retail I would get silver certificates or red seal $2s & $5s all the time. So that isnt too impressive either. But I admit both are hard to come by in change anymore. Seemed more available in the 80s and 90s. I guess many are more aware now.
Somebody spent it. I accepted it as a quarter, and paid a quarter for it. It's in bad shape but it's old and foreign.
Since I last posted to this thread, I've found two Indian head pennies, and a 1909 VDB penny in a roll. I've also found more silver dimes, war nickels, buffalo nickels, a bicentennial silver business strike quarter, and many other interesting coins. Would the VDB be the most impressive find?
