I have a question.my father recently purchased 2 complete sets of the 50 state quarters.(100) coins total.each set is in nice wood case, the only diffrance is one 50 coin set is from the Denver mint and the other is from philidelphia mint.( I believe those are the 2 cities he said. I not a collector so please excuse my ignorance if I am wrong) Anyway is one set more desirable than the other, and if so, why? Also as I said I am not a collector but would be intrested in starting.what are some types of coins or ways to get started collecting? Thanks for your time Tony B
you are going about it in the right way. The states quarters were indeed minted in Philly and Denver, and no one is not more desirable that the other. The mintages on these were really high. If you are interested in collecting I would recommend going to your local book store a borders or some such and buying a Redbook. It is a guidebook to all American coins and is a good place to start. Next you can start searching rolls of coins from your local bank, or you can look up a couple of coin shops in your local area and go scout them out, maybe talk to the proprieters.
