I know that this question has probably been asked before, but I am new to this site, and this is my first day on this forum. Here goes......Which grading service do you think is better.....NGC or PCGS? Which graded coins are worth more money, NGC or PCGS? Which grading service is more "STRICT" in their grading of coins, NGC or PCGS? I am fairly new to collecting coins. I started a little over a year ago. I have been buying most of my coins from E-Bay or from the U.S. Mint. Sometimes I go a little "NUTS" with buying coins. I have had 3 brain tumors, and sometimes I just can't help myself. I get a little confused at times. If these questions about NGC or PCGS have been discussed before, please forgive me. Like I said, this is my first time on this web site and my first time on this forum. Thanking you all in advance for your answers and your patience with me and what's left of my brain! REGARDS, swick
If you do a search of NGC and PCGS or even just the term MS or PF70 you will find many many long threads about such things. It is my standing that NGC is the better---many people think PCGS because their "slabs" sell for more $$...but then we are buying the coin not the slab. Also people think that PCGS is better because they give out fewer MS or PF70 grades on coins---but lately it has been printed right from the mouth of PCGS's head that they don't grade a coin PF or MS70 even when it is one because the coin might "change" in the slab and then they would have to buy it back.... You will find that NGC is much more strict IMHO on almost every coin---grading is an Art---and each must learn it-- Speedy
Thanks "Speedy" for you insight. It helped me a lot. At the very least, it got me thinking! Thanks again! yer friend, swick
It's very simple, but what often gets lost in these types of discussions is that you really just have to look at coins and evaluate them on a coin-by-coin basis. There is no substitute.
