I'm collecting more and more currency. At this point most of it is from South AMerican countries and Mexico, but I'm going to expand to other countries. After Google searches and Amazon searches I think there are three volumes of Standard Catalog of World Currency. I want all three. What are they called? What are the latest editions? How large are paper back versions? Thanks
The three volumes are: Volume I: Specialized Issues Volume II: Government Issues until 1960 Volume III: Government Issues 1961 and after The current editions I believe are: Volume I: 11th Volume II: 12th Volume III: 15th Each is close to 1000 pages. You also get a CD version of each when you buy the print edition. They run about $65.00 per volume new.
The three volumes are: 1) SCWPM, General Issues 1368-1960, 12th edition 2) SCWPM, Modern Issues (1960-current), 15th edition, which you can get in paper or DVD (I use the DVD, it's great and you can search it) 3) SCWPM, Specialized Issues, 11th edition Personally I recommend one version of volume 1, which you can sort of keep forever because not a whole lot changes from one edition to the next, and since their prices are not hugely accurate, the latest prices aren't too important. Then volume 2 is more relevant as a current document, since new issues are added. And certainly many folks collecting "world" tend to mostly have notes more recent than 1960. I don't buy the Specialized Issues volume, and rather focus on foreign catalogs if I want specialized info from a particular country. Dave PS, whoops posted at the same time as lettow... I pulled the edition numbers from the krausebooks.com web site.
Thanks. I think I read on the krausebooks.com site that version III is after 1961. If I decide not to buy all three volumes I'll buy vol. I & II. But I'll probably buy all three. The PP editions are much cheaper than HB editions. How large are the PP editions? Thanks again.
I agree that country specific catalogs are best if you are going to collect a certain country. For example, the Rosenberg catalog for German government notes. The Geiger-Mueller catalog for German Railroad and Post Office notes, etc. It helps to have a working knowledge of the language they are printed in. Although it is Krause's nomenclature, referring to Volume I as "specialized Issues" is somewhat of a misnomer. It consists of regional and local issues. For example, notes issued by the various sides of the Mexican Revolution or Russian Revolution are found in Volume I but the official government issues from the same period will be found in Volume II. Chinese provincial banks are listed in Volume I while the banks of the national government are listed in Volume II. There are catalogs specific to Mexico, Brazil and many of the other Central and South American countries but most of these are only published in the particular country.
Great. I think I'll order all three from Amazon. Vol III is $21.xx plus postage from AMazon vendor. I'll check other Vols there as well and verify edition #.
