I purchased this coin a few years back at my local coin shop, I paid $6 USD and was told it was a coin of Constantine. I have seen quite a few other Constantine-era coins on ebay, and haven't been able to find any with the same bust on the obverse as mine. Now, I know that this coin was minted in Trier, because of the 'PTR' mintmark, but does anyone know which emperor is on this coin? Here's a couple pics.
My guess would be Constantine II, son of Constantine the Great. he was Caesar from 317-337AD. Have you looked at www.romancoins.info ? The site has great info on the various Emperors.
These are actually quite easy to learn to ID. Start off with this:http://www.tesorillo.com/aes/home.htm Then use this for more specific ID: http://www.catbikes.ch/coinstuff/coins-ric.htm
Wow, great stuff...thanks guys, that's alot more than I expected, I was just happy to be able to write the name of the emperor on the envelope. Very helpful, and much appreciated, thanks again.
BTW I love the cuirass/armor that he is wearing on the obv of this particular coin, for some reason I've always been drawn to a good cuirass...I've got some other pics with nice cuirass's in my gallery of ancients...I don't know why, but a good cuirass is more attractive to me than a good portrait at times...but like always...it depends on the particular coin...
