Which coins do you look at these days?

I find that I am attracted to the themes of some of my coins in particular these days:

    Treb Gal.jpg

This coin was minted during the reign of Trebonianus Gallus, during the Cyprian plague. On the reverse, the emperor asks Apollon, the God of healing, to save the Roman people. At worst, it's said that 5000 Romans died every day. It's a somber coin.

    San Marino 20l.jpg

This coin, however, is more uplifting. It has the image of Saint Marinus, who is said to have founded the small republic of San Marino in 301 AD. He is looking upwards, being in contact with the spiritual. I try to do that too these days, and believe that things will be all right again, and that this crisis might even help us making this world a better place.

    Weimar 5m.jpg

The 5 Mark Eichbaum from the Weimar Republic. One of the best coin designs of the 20th century? Trees always make me happy. Especially in spring, when the new green shoots of the new year come out. Trees give me a feeling of lasting growth.

Please share some coins that have been getting your attention lately. :)

I have been looking at mostly auction catalogues, books. I am eagerly still waiting for that new book on "Electrum coinage" It keeps getting delayed:(
But in the meantime I have been busy typing up new data labels for new additions/ here is one of them....

I'm looking at the same coins I was looking at a few months ago, just buying a lot less of them.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Besides the early Lydian coins, were there many others made in electrum? Or is that the focus of the book? Any link to info on the book? Sounds intriguing!

I've been going through a 10 pound batch of foreign coins I recently purchased. Found some nice die cracks and doubling on a few that I need to research. Can't get my boxes of coins at the bank currently so I don't want to go into a panic attack.

German States and early Islamic coins have my interest now.

I agree. If I get desperate I can always fall back on my foreign stuff. I have about 50 pounds of various purchases over the years. I never remember what I bought so it would be like buying it over again!

I still need to finish my toned Canadian 25 cents caribou quarters and 50 cents coins set from 1937-1967. Then I want to save up for a gold Fatimid Islamic coin.

German States are fun but Islamic coins drive me bonkers. I wish the Krause catalogs would expand their identifiers pages. It's not that I mind the research but too many times it ends up a bust.

I have a collection of Canadian quarters from those dates. Actually, my collection dates back before 1900.

A few year back when I had just got into coin collecting, I was buying a lot of random AV coins mostly at spot or very slightly above. I am now taking the opportunity to cash in these and concentrate on the more hard to find key dates/scarce issues. With the price of gold hovering around the $1,700 mark, I should be OK.

Also I've been looking at this dude and thinking..."No matter what the odds, at least he could see and knew what he was fighting'. Stay healthy everyone.

I think the biggest thing we have to fear right now is fear. It is going to create a lot of fearful children with the poor example so many adults are setting.

I am glad to be back at work. My biggest enemy is the weather, its been windy (hard to blow leaves) but its also really cool, around 5-8 cel./ and according to weather channel stay below 10 cel. for next 3 weeks:). Thats great, grass will not grow, and I can make extra $$$$ doing odd landscape jobs. While I am outdoors working, I think about next coins to bid on. I do not worry about COVID 19 since I am all by my lonesome and follow safety rules. Like Wreath Crown I also have upgraded some of my gold coins in past ten years to MS.

I'm constantly browsing auctions, ebay, etc for crown sized world coins (36mm and up for me). Prefer older so basically I write down certain ones that appeal to me and start a wishlist and start tackling the large wishlist one at a time. This is vast and if I get bored of one country, I jump to another country which keeps it exciting
