Which annual proof set will you get, the silver or non-silver

I am looking at the set right now on the up-coming section and boy does that look nice. I will probably sit and stare at that set longer than I did my Lincoln commems.

Does anyone here have a preference as to what looks nicer as a proof? Does silver add an extra shine that makes a coin that much more prize worthy?

Though beyond getting one set versus several for the selling factor, I am curious, because it does seem that the popularity for the coins on this one is going to be very high. So I am a little cautious about thinking these will go way up in value. I believe I am just going to get one of each and call it good. Maybe even just one silver, because that is what I like:).

absolutely buy whatever it is that you like. Personally, I buy 2 or 3 sets of each every year. Elaine, OTOH, buys what I would consider to be large quantities of them. Everyone is different. If you are buying them for investment, the Lincoln Cent is going to be the most desirable part of this proof set. It comes in either the clad or the silver full proof set. If you are investing, I would lean toward the clad set and buy more of them.

    More cents = more sense

I usally get three of each. They are both nice sets and this year's Lincoln cents should make them even better!

I have Subscriptions for 10 of the silver, clad and the uncirculated sets. Last year (2008) I was glad I had that many ordered as I just sold the last of the 5 I had planed on selling, the others I use for 5 proof set runs from 1955 to present that I have tried to keep current.

Usually the only thing I buy yearly from the mint is two of the annual Prez Dollar Proof Sets. I didn't buy any this year because I will get a Proof Set and Silver Proof Set. This year I want the Linc Cent, Prez Dollars, and both type of proof DC and Terr. Quarters from them.

I will buy one set of the regular then bust it up for the cents and nickels for my sets, the rest will go bye bye.

I usually get one silver proof set, one clad proof set and 2 uncirculated sets of the P & D mint. That relieves the craving for a while.

You know when I started collecting proof sets from the Mint it was 1996 and I started buying 2 clad and 1 silver each year. I figured that I'd buy 1 to keep and 1 to sell if they went way up. But soon after the Statehood Quarters came out and since I have 3 kids, I started putting together a set for each of them. A quarter set of each type, (clad and silver), and a full set of each type. Now that the Statehood thing is over, I have started to realize that these proof set prices are getting out of hand with the issue price. I think after this year I am going to take the opportunity to scale back to 2 and 1 again. I have something to give my children, now it's time to start concentrating my coin $$$ in the direction I want to pursue.

In the past I always get the silver proof set but only get the non-silver proof set if I have extra money.
The only one I still need is the $$$ 1999 silver proof set. Will have to save up for that one. I just happen to not get one that year. Sigh....

This year will be different as I will pick up a regular proof set on June 1st and the silver one later in the year.
