I ran into one of these marked notes last night and it really irritated me. Fortunatly it was only a 2003A, nothing important. But it got me to wondering if anyone has ever run into a more valuable note that has been similiarly defaced?

Yes, WG is a plague upon older notes. People deface and destroy Web Notes, 40 year old stars, Red Seals, you name it all in the name of getting what they call a "hit". I don't even like to mention the site on here for fear of getting people involved with such practices. In all honesty I hope that the United States Federal Government one day shuts the entire site down. Many of the stamped bills get destroyed at the FRBs solely because of the WG stamps and markings. This should be grounds for the United States Federal Government to close them down. Not only this but in the last day it has been revealed that the site administrator has banned of all words "Christ" and "Jesus" from being used in user notes for bills. This tears it for me and I will no longer be apart of WG.

The bad thing is it's still makes the news. I saw a TV news article on CBS Wednesday night where they even interviewed the creator of the whole idea. I don't know if he is also the site admin. I hadn't heard about the religious ban in the notes. Maybe we'll get lucky and EVERYONE will stop doing it!!!!

Yes he goes by the name of Ha n k. If he had blocked all religious words and names it would be different but he has banned only Jesus and Christ! If the United States Federal Government doesn't shut him down then hopefully he will have no choice but to one day close it down himself. He was mentioning the other day about how bandwidth and space usage continues to rise, raising operational costs. Every time someone enters a bill with a note it takes up space on a server someplace, this is not free to do.

Maybe we should enter every note that passes through our hands on his site (without making a mark on any of them).

That is a good idea but thankfully there are already enough users out there who have saved us the trouble of doing so. There are individual WG users with way too much time on their hands who have somehow managed to enter more than 500,000 bills without marking any of them.

I'm not gonna note the actual serial number, but I have a WG note where the serial # is A00000YYY*.

Yes, they defaced a low serial numbered star note.

The site administrator crossed the line with his hateful, disrespectful and venomous attitude towards Christians and perhaps even people of faith in general. I am done with WG now in part because of this but mostly because of his banning the use of only Jesus and Christ.

    ouch!
I gotta say I do enjoy finding WG notes in change, so I can enter them and see where they came from (which is the whole idea in the first place, I believe)
but to mark such a low serial number! thats horrible.
the notes Ive found have all just been normal worn notes. nothing special

I know I have found at least one Forth Worth 295 engraving error with a WG on it. Might not mean much to you but it's a legit error note.

The concept is cool and I used to actually track those that I got. NEVER marked one though that I can recall and if I did it was a rag.

Betting there's some good notes still floaring around out there with the WG stamp.

I participate in Where's George all the time. Living in a tourist Mecca, I've received some great hits over the years. It's fun, it's a game. It's only a dollar. You can't save them all ...I mean it's only a dollar. If it causes to much stress perhaps you should find another hobby. There are more important things in life to be concerned about. More important than stamping a dollar with a rubber stamp ... I mean really.

    Ok Andrew,

I know it's been but a few minutes since my last post. I don't have any problems with you but need to make a point as to why I asked if you collect coins. I'm sure you do or you wouldn't be here now would you.

So look at this from a COLLECTORS point of view. I collect both coins and currency.

A dollar is just a dollar right? Following that reasoning a "penny" is just a "penny". So here you are in the "tourist mecca" when you crack open a roll of Lincoln Cents. Wow! all wheaties you say to yourself. Most are common but hey face value so you buy the roll.

You get said roll home and notice the reverse of one is VDB. Anxiously, you turn it over and see the 09S. YES!!!
But wait there's a huge WL stamped on it. Of course, it's the stinkin Where's Lincoln stamp which is totally useless because there is no serial number to even track it!

Nonetheless, some moron has trashed a very valuable coin!

Now, you may not like currency or understand it or even want to but there are many of us out there that do. Furthermore, if one knows what to look for in currency the pickings are actually better than in coins. Believe me I do both.

Randomly stamping WG on a note is just like randomly carving one's initials into a coin that might be very valuable. Hey, it's only a "penny" (which is worth less than a dollar last time I checked).

    ^ great analogy!

and speak of the devil, I found a WG bill tonight in change, after just having read this! lol
luckily, its nothing special, so I put it in. also, this note just had a small butterfly stamped on it, with "WG" written on the back. So it wasnt too intrusive - it was just as bad as any other note with writing on it, it was not the actual stamp.

Hopefully the day never comes when I find a nice note with the WG or stamp on it.

I knew this older gentleman that had a collection of about 14 one dollar bills all stamped with the words "I Grew Hemp" coming from washingtons mouth. Anyhow, Ive always wondered what decade was that common, has anyone else ever seen those before??? Thats the only time Ive ever seen them, and the man told me that he found all of them circulating so he saved them. Anyhow, I guess Washington really did grow hemp and I guess he smoked it too. But thats besides the point. Im curios if anyone else has seen them or knows anything about when they were common???

My guess would be during the '60s, when Timothy Leary was preaching the joys and wonders of LSD, to a counterculture that used a whole bunch of marijuana.
