I don't have Krause catalogs for the 1700 or 1600's. I picked up this coin, and was wondering from whence it came? Any details on the coin or the country would be appreciated. I also have one from the mid-1600's but it's not in the greatest of shape.

The coin is a copper duit. Gelderland was a province of the Netherlands. Value of the coin is about $3 - $5.

It's also a heck of a lot less then what I paid, but I'm not doing this to make money anyway. I liked it, I bought it.... that's how it goes.

During the Middle Ages, Gelderland (or Gelre) was a duchy. It became part of the Burgundian lands and, after the marriage of Maria of Burgundy with Maximilian of Habsburg, it was owned (as most of the Netherlands) by the Habsburg family.
After the secession of the Northern Netherlands from Spain (ruled at that time by Philip II of Habsburg), it became one of the 7 Provinces of the Dutch Republic. Still, the province called itself a duchy. So, on all the Gelderland coins you can find de abbreviations D or DUC for DUCATUS GELRIAE or Duchy of Gelderland.
At the moment, Gelderland still is a province of the kingdom of the Netherlands.
