Hello, I was wondering where I could purchase straps of UNC USD banknotes for FV. Any help is appreciated.
Pretty much at any bank. They might limit you on how many they will sell though. I work at a bank and it seems like we only get brand new unc notes around Christmas time. So in a few weeks go around and ask to see if anyone has them. Also, when we order our money from the fed, we cannot decide if we want new or old ones, the federal reserve decides and we just get what they give us.
Do you think I have to be a customer at a bank in order to do this ? I'm rather interested in the straps wrapped up with the BEP band such as this one:
It all depends on the banks policy's. My old branch manager wouldn't mind if we sold people straps off bills if they don't have a account with us, but my new manager said we cant even break someones twenty if they don't have a account with us. I'm guessing if you just ask for 1 strap and its a lower denomination they won't mind if you don't have a account. definitely check your own bank first and see if they can call around to there other branch's to see if they have any. And any money we get from the feds come in straps very similar to that, and if its new unc money I'm pretty sure that's exactly what the straps look like.
You're in Quebec. I'm guessing you could cross the border into New York and check there. You might even be able to drive to the Federal Reserve. Call them up. Maybe they let you buy straps directly. As for the BEP, I doubt you'd be able to get those at face. I'm pretty sure they're generally released to the public as collectibles, so the government itself charges a premium.
I'm pretty sure neither the Federal Reserve (all 12) or the BEP will sell straps directly to the public.
The BEP *might*. I'm sure if you sent an inquiry to moneyfactorystore.gov or whatever, they'd give you a price, but it's be something like $350 for a strap of 100 $1 bills. You're probably right about the FRBs.
I wouldn't go all the way to the BEP or a Federal Reserve unless I could get straps for FV there and it's on my way. Otherwise, a trip to New York is reasonable. I guess my best bet is to ask around at random banks there ?
Precisely. Go to the biggest bank you can find in the area. You can try calling them up a week or two before Christmas and ask when they will get the new notes; just don't sound like you're planning to rob the place. The banks get new straps from the Fed right around Christmas.
I go to my local casino to get cirirculated, sorry not uncirculated. But from my experience so far they are more than happy to give me all the $1 bills or any denomination I want.
If your member of a credit union, they will give you all you want, allot more Friendly then a big bank !
