    Hello,

I'm looking to purchase soft plastic square flip up coin holders. They are simply a sheet of plastic which surrounds the coin, and flips up on one side to allow you to remove or insert a coin. I am new to coin collecting, and would like information on where to purchase these. I recently received a coin encased in one.

    Thanks!

Personally, I prefer 2X2 holders (that you staple-- very carefully.)

You can get them frmo Whitman, see:

If you do get the plastic flips, be careful that they do NOT contain PVC, or they can damage your coin. The PVC tends to degrade and can seriously harm your coins, especially non-silver & non-gold.
They are generally not for long term storage.

The Nobn-PVC ones tend to crack, since without the PBC they are more brittle.

Go to Google and type these words in:

    pcv free flips coins

You'll get information about and places to buy them.

Thanks for the info on the PVC flaps. Are there any quality non-PVC ones? or do they all crack?

Thanks for the link to the cardboard 2x2 holders. I never like the look of them much, but perhaps it's what I'll end up doing.

    Do they all crack (non-PVC)?
In my experience -- yes. But perhaps someone knows of some better ones.

Many of the more modern all plastic flips are made of newer more flexible plastics that are softer also. The do not crack. They stay soft. They will not scratch coins. I've been using them for a long time.
If you can find a coin show in your area, go there and ask the dealers where they get thiers or just buy from them. Coin supply houses are also abundant by just Google or Yahoo searches.
