I have bought a few, using different online services, but I would like your collective opinion on who I can trust to buy Peace Dollars, especially raw ones, without concerns of cleaning or sliders. I have some common Peace's from coast to coast and apmex, but I don't want to go that route for some of the semi-key and key dates for obvious reasons.
Try Empire Coins out of Scottsdale, AZ. I find them honest and trustworthy. Pics of the coins are available and service is superb! http://www.empirecoins.net/shop/
Thanks for the link Panther. They have a hell of an inventory. I might give them a shot on a raw coin. They seem to be fairly honest in their descriptions, even downgrading some of the self graded coins.
Cool, jerseycat10. They even will buy coins at a fair price with a damn good layaway policy and return. I have never received an overgraded coin, but not being a grading expert, I thought some of my purchase's were undergraded. Good luck and let me know how it works out for you.
I would never buy a raw peace dollar except in person, ever! I would never buy a raw peace dollar except in person, ever! I do not know why a person would do such a thing. Plus from one of the dealers you mention I would not buy a paper bag from - I would be afraid it would be cleaned.
Yes, I assume the dealer you are referring to is Coast To Coast. The coins I have from them were gifts. I didn't buy a single coin from them As long as the vendor has a decent return option, I have no concerns buying raw Peace dollars online.
Speaking from experience, I'd have to second this one. I bought six coins from a one page ad in a coin magazine, thinking this would be a safe bet. Four of the six were cleaned AUs. The other two were in fact BU, so I figure I broke even. But, I will not buy raw uncirculated dollars without seeing them in person again, and I will NOT buy from that particular seller again.
I buy almost all of my Peace Dollars from Heritage and never buy them raw. It is a very inexpensive series with only a few keys. However, buying those keys raw is extremely dangerous. I don't crack out coins and I like my collections to either be completely raw for completely certified.
