I'm lookin go to purchase high grade (ms65-ms67) business strike coins from say 2000 and up. Dont want to pay crazy money off ebay from slabbed coins, but rather high quality raw. I bought from a few ad's I saw and told them what I was looking for, but still received run of the mill stuff, some with lots of bag marks! Even alot of US Mint Unc sets, the coins are so-so and not many coins shows here to "cherrypick" from, but would think there is someone out there selling this type of material. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jim

To be quite honest with you there really aren't that many dealers who evrn try to sell moderns as you describe, especially raw. Yeah, there are some that carry them, but they just get rolls from the bank and sell them as they are asked for.

If you want higher grade raw moderns your best bet is to do roll searches yourself.

Yes, but they are different than th enormal business strikes from 2005 on. Those Mint Set coins have a satin finish, the business strikes do not.

The problem is really lack of supply. There just aren't many nice quality moderns and the few people who are cherry picking are either doing it for their own collections or to slab for sale. Many of the rejects find their way into circulation.

When a little more demand developes there will be more dealers trying to supply it but now most of the demand is for just run of the mill coins or slabs.

I'd suggest you pick up a copy of Coinage magazine or Numismatic News. There are ads offering a little of this sort of material. The prices are quite reasonable but you can find them much cheaper if you can locate the raw coins and mint sets to cherry.

Since 1965 the mint has taken great pains to make nice coins for the mint sets. It's difficult to tell sometimes but in most cases the finest coins made will be in these sets.
