I asked a dealer the other day about a $1 Gold coin and she that she didn't have one but could order it for me. She also quoted me a price that was in line with what they are selling for, so I know she is paying less (which is OK I know she is in business and needs to meke a profit) and I wondering where you could get these coins by ordering. If you know I am interested I own my own business so I can buy wholesale through it. Thanks

More than likely your dealer has relationships with other dealers, somtimes there will be a quite large dealer that will wholesale to other known dealers in given area perhaps. In my town, there is only one coin dealer, nothing slabbed, just a few mint/proof sets, a few supplies, etc. He works with a large dealer in a city about 40 miles away. He'll always say, "let me see if I can find that for you."

You'll probably find that a coin dealer won't sell at wholesale to just anybody. Just my opinion.

Why China of course. Your dealer probably has any coin you want made and shipped the next day. And in any material you prefer but the most common is Lead. Covered with Real Gold? :goofer:
Pending on how long your dealer has been in buisness, they usually have made many friends in that buisness. If someone wants a special coin, they just contact as many of those friends as possible. If one has that one, it is sent to your dealer and a small monitary reward is returned. One dealer I know does this all the time. He only pays what he charges for that coin to the other dealer since it is a do me a favor and I'll return the favor. In this way he can keep the cost down to his preferred customers.
I always remember asking many dealers at a coin show for a certain coin in a certain grade and was constantly told those are common. Just look around this coin show and you'll find many of them. OK so if it's common, do you have one. No one did and that was for many shows. Finally one dealer said OK I'll get you one. AND at the next show, there it was.
I'm sure with the internet a dealer can put out the word for a coin and get numerous responses from other dealers if they know each other.

There are several on-line dealer networks that any registered dealer can access 24/7 and pretty much find an assortment of any given coin in various grades. The coins can be delivered the next day if so desired.

This is one of the reasons why collectors need to establish working & active relationships with dealers. It doesn't matter what coin you want or in what grade - they can find it for you in a matter of minutes.

Thanks I knew somebody here could answer that for me. I have to drive 80 miles round trip to get to the nearest dealer so I buy alot on line and even from members here. it is best to see the coin in person I guess but I have never been disappointed with wnything members of CT have sold me and most of those I had never even seen a picture of just their word that the was what it was. maybe i have too much faith in people on this forum but it also says for them.
