Yes I Googled and they are everywhere, but all I can find are either stock photos (APMEX, etc.) or auction sites, or sites that look, for lack of a better word, 'shady.' There's also tons of places with modern stuff, and a lot more with sky-high prices. Can anyone recommend a REPUTABLE place where I can buy a common PCGS lower grade (MS62-63) $20 Liberty at a fair price, with a photo of the actual coin? Thanks for any replies and Merry Christmas to all!
Personally, APMEX is a tremendous site for such a coin. Even with the stock photos, if I were in the market for a solid bullion graded coin with no regards to date, APMEX would be my prime choice. Aside from that, call around to several dealers in your area. I'm pretty sure you will be able to find something that will meet your needs.
Perhaps an Ad in CT advertisement forum, stating what you want, mention the photos, and a price range you will pay for that TPG grade. There are many regular members and coin dealer members who would be interested if the range was fair. Why give a $$ range? Well, you are expecting the person to take photos and send them and you might still choose a different offer, so he should know what actual price he must figure in. Even though there is differences among PCGS MS 63 coins, it isn't fair to ask for effort from someone without them knowing what would be paid. I consider a MS62-63 range PCGS graded coin as not a bullion coin.
agreed! I wouldn't consider it bullion either But then I have one that I really don't need. Never mind, mine is a St Gaudens, Just a thought, I would never buy one uncertified, since there are so many fakes out there. At the same time, think about it: an MS-62 St Gaudens? Or even a $20 Lib? That is a collector coin. To me anyway.
He doesn't have any 62's at the moment but there is a 63 and a couple 64's.http://www.empirecoins.net/index.php
Harlan J Berk always has a bunch in stock with actual pictures and a rock solid reputation. I wouldn't buy one from a stock photo because grading can be kinda all over the place on these. Some 62 can look nice, while others are pretty ratty. The 62-63 range seems to be the sweet spot on these. 64 and higher are expensive, while 61 and lower aren't cheap enough to justify the often lack of eye appeal. For some reason, I always liked the 1896 - 1898 S mints for strike and eye appeal. Unless the coin was exceptional, I woukd avoid the super generic 1904.
Never used them myself, but I have this in my saved dealers list: http://www.aucmcoins.com/inventory/product-category/20-double-eagles/
However, common date, even PCGS 62-63, coins typically sell for a small premium over melt, just like bullion does. That is reality. Does it make the coins non-collectible ? No, of course not. Any coin in any grade is collectible. But it is important to be aware of what I said so you do not over-pay for the coins.
You could try heritages weekly sales they almost always have $20 libertys there especially if their unreserved they can be picked up reasonable
I've used GoldandSilver online.com a couple of times. pretty good prices on pre'33 gold. they do use stock photos but you can call and ask about selection and years from the common date list.
I suspect that if you posted more reasonable specific wants in the CoinTalk WTB section you would receive some reasonable responses. An AD: WTB 1904 PCGS MS62 $20 LIBERTY @ $1500 is reasonable. There are probably many REPUTABLE sellers in this venue who could/would accommodate realistic wants. It's very difficult to answer a general question with acceptable specific answers. I purchase slabbed products from eBay at the rate of ~$10K/month, and don't understand the problem. eBay does have a REPUTATION as a secure place to purchase if you know what you desire, and a buyer on eBay has probably the best refund policy in the industry.
