First of all, welcome to the boards!
I don't have an answer to your question, but will be interested to find out myself. I have several circulation coins from Jamaica as that's my favorite place to vacation (we go every year) but would love to add something with a little more pizazz :D
Good luck in your quest and please let me know if you come across a good source.

    Thanks

And ya that link is a good start.

Hard to find jamaican. I just started though.

I have a bunch of the lower denominations.

Got lucky and got a 1/2 penny that was 1899. Thats my oldest coin so far.

and i got a silver and a gold coin 1962-1972 anniversary of independence proof coins.

The gold one is my first gold coin.

I know that I like the ones with ships on them. And I definetly want to get the silver bob marley one :)

Gorgeous coins !! I love the color on the silver ;)

If you haven't already - do a search on Google for Jamaican coins. You'll find many possibilities.

yeah been looking all over the place lol. how i found this place.

Find gold but not a lot of silver :(

Gold is usually 150+ so its something like a treat.

Figured I start off with the silver. :)

Yeah Jamaican coinage is not that popular so it can be difficult to find. But it is out there - you just have to look for it. You can aslo check ebay - but if you are unfamiliar with ebay I suggest you read some of the post on this Forum about the Do's and Don'ts of using ebay.

If anyone sees a $50 silver bob marley coin please let me know as long as it is mint and not over priced.

    Thanks.

Also I got a better copy of that silver with no scratches and better edge. Its not the proof version put the uncirculated specimen version. Found it at my friends store since a long time ago there was a fire so the cover on it was sort of damaged so i cut off the bottom part and put the coin in a nice case which is the one on the left. the one on the right is teh one I showed before.

    :)

    Another cool coin

Do you understand the significance and the influence that Selassie had in Jamaica ? The man was nearly considered a god there.

There is a Bob Marley silver Jamaican silver $50 on ebay now. I think it ends in three days. I think the bidding is up to $50. They usually sell for $100 or so. I got one a few weeks ago, had been watching for one to come up for sale for about six months and in the last few weeks I have seen three.

    yeah

I saw them too but at this time cant afford it. eventually i will get one. Book value is 45 or 40 i think in krauss but they go from 100 to 140 on ebay by the time bidding is done.

Bank of jamaica has the gold ones in stock though so they say.

    Ill get that one eventually.

right now getting the smaller stuff that have animals

why i got the parrot one

soon ill get the whale one and butterfly and such

    then ships

then ill worry about the ones with morgan and the wueen and such.

    :)

I like the gold coin on the first page, exellent condition.

Back to topic- Finding Jamican coins can be somewhat hard. Like mentioned above they are not very popular. Also, another possible reason comes from my own experience in Jamaica. Right before I left the airport, I had to exchange all of my Jamaican money back into Canadian because they wouldn't let me take it out of the country. Some policiy I am assuming, might have changed, might not have. I assume they don't want to deal with minting the amount of coins that tourists take home.

The Jamaican dollar is a currency whose value has gone down to zero like the Zimbabwean dollar & the Guyanese dollar. The Jamaican $1 coin is a tiny steel piece that depicts the portrait of Sir Alexander
Bustamante. The pure silver proof coin showing Emperor Haile Selassie is actually from Ethiopia, not
Jamaica.Does anyone have the latest value of the US$ against Jamaican dollars - US$1 =?J$ ?.

For currency conversion, I use this website www.xe.com
Currently, it shows the exchange rate of $1 US = $61.06 JMD. That's the 'official' rate anyway...I know when we were down there this past summer it would be anywhere within $10 either side of that, depending where you were trying to buy the currency. I was able to bring back quite a few coins without any trouble, even getting the last few that I needed at the airport on our way home...no hassles, no worries mon! :D
