2008 nickels? I've seen about a half dozen or more here in the middle of nowhere, and half the time I don't even pay attention. They were all from the Dever mint though.
I have only pulled about 20 out of rolls so far all D mint. I think the mints are a little slow getting them out this year. I am just starting to see 08 in all denominations.
I have seen only a few 08 nickels of each mint in the last two boxes I have gone through - and that's it. Hope to see more as the year goes on because everything I've seen is in obvious circulated condition.
I called up the usmint the other day to ask a question about the current nickel designs and they told me that they weren't making any other than mint/proof sets this year.. could this be true?
My coin dealer asked me the same thing the other day. "You haven't seen any 2008-D nickels have you?" I thought for a sec...hmmm....its the end of October and NO I hadn't. Until today. Found my first one. He told me the mint wasn't releasing any for circulation (up to that point at least). Weird. i also noticed no one who had seen them/had them posted a pic. I don't think. Anyway, here's mine.
I didn't think it was important enough to post a pic. I started finding them pretty early in the year.
I still find it quite odd that this one is the first I've seen. And given the time of year and past experiences, I thought I would say the same. I found it odd my dealer asked me that. AZ isn't that far from Denver OR Tuscon (which is where I think Phoenix ultimately gets its coins).
Maybe all of the earlier shipments of coins from the D mint came to the midwest? I don't know how the mint's shipments work though...
Sometimes it's towards the end of the year before I see new coins. I suppose it's just the luck of the draw.
