I had these all pulled out, and I realized just how many I have. I’m gathering them to get a large sample size for a paper I will be writing in the near future. It will replace this paper I’ve written before: https://www.coincommunity.com/pdf/Ant-Nose-essay.pdf Some of the updates will include new scholarship and research into the archaeological context of the coins and their dating, as well a a new analysis into the inscriptions, disproving the current accepted theories for the undeciphered types and introducing my own theories. This latter point required a large sample size of these ant-nose coins to perceive patterns that will help define the evolution of the inscriptions and their original intended forms. That’s why I have soooooo many of them, more than any reasonable collector should have... I guess it’s time to sign up for that 12-step program...
The first step is admitting you have a problem. However, I see no problem. I just see a very nice collection. Because of this post I just counted the coins in my 12 Caesars collection. Including those on their way to me I have 85 coins of the 12 Caesars and this includes 20 coins of Domitian. The 12 Caesars should be 12 coins and not 85. However, if 12 is good then 85 is better...right?
TypeCoin971793, It will take more than simple rehab to quell your lust for these coins . Just kidding . I'm glad you added the link to your previous article since I had no idea what I was looking at . Obviously these coins were an important & integral part of the existing monetary system that too many of us know nothing about . Thanks for sharing . I'll look forward to your forth coming article .
Nice examples @TypeCoin971793 ! I have about a half-dozen, one of which I captured from you. Looking forward to your paper! I feel relieved that my hoarding habits are not yet as severe as yours. I just keep a few spare specimen as backup next to my core collection. For scientific reasons offcourse.
I wish you a speedy and steady recovery, from a fellow ant-nose addict . (Although you far outclass me on Ge Liu Zhu territory)
Guess obsessions are common around these parts... I have been meaning to pick up some earlier types of Chinese coins, but for some reason there usually isn't enough extra budget at the end of the month...
Anyway, Lugdunum is quite a big city. 25 miles away from Lugdunum is the very small city of Trevoux from the mint of which I have 280 coins, although none of you folks has ever heard of its existence I bet ! Q
@TypeCoin971793, the first four coins on each row come from a variety of different sources. The ghost faces from come from an assortment of random dealers I can’t remember (and one from @Ken Dorney which was a Saturnalia gift from @ValiantKnight), the rarer inscriptions (with exception of the first Jun) all come from you know who. The entire right side comes from a hoard of which I got around 20 coins from a Chinese dealer, quite possibly the same as where you got a large part from. In total there are two of which I am slightly doubtful of their authenticity. It would be interesting to see if you can spot which ones .
